Brenda is unequivocally the greatest animal lover we know. We have trusted her many, many times over the past 8 years with the care of all our animals—three Papillons and, at one time, three ancient cats—and we have her word that she will take our dogs if something happens to us. Brenda is our go-to person whenever we have a question about animal health or care, or we need to find a home for a stray. She is well-networked in the animal-lover world. She is a loving, caring person in the general world as well.

My name is Beaujolais, and I am an 11-year-old Papillon. I have known Brenda Higgins since I was three, and she is my favorite person in the whole world. She is always happy to see me, she is always kind and gentle to me, she plays with me when she comes over to feed me, and she even gave me some training once that added some new tricks to my repertoire, such as “down.” No matter how many animals she has of her own, she always has room in her heart for me and my two Papillon brothers.

Hi there. Gus here. Well, "Gussie, Gussie" to Brenda. She's the only person I let call me that. I do that because she's, well, she's just irresistible. Her whole voice lifts with joy when she sees me and calls to me. I can't help but wiggle my whole body in response. I'm almost 9 and she's known me my whole life. I'm a dog with lots of "special" needs, and Brenda goes out of her way to find information that will help my person (Rev. Marni Harmony) take the finest possible care of me. She's just plain The Best!

In May of 2008, I went to the hardware store and when I came out I heard a kitten mewing. It turned out to be in the engine of the car next to me. I eventually crawled under the car and pulled him out of the rear wheel well where he had crawled to hide. Six weeks old, very scared, very dirty, and full of fleas, but within 24 hours, he was clean, flea free, vet checked and first shots, and purring like a Buick when I picked him up. He used to look into my face and put his paws on either side. In only four days, Emily came to give him a wonderful and loving home.

I have known Brenda for over eight years, and for three of those years I lived next door to her as her tenant. I can’t begin to express how thankful I am for all of the times she lovingly cared for each of my cats, Nino and Marci, while I was away from my home. I absolutely trusted her with every aspect of caring for my cats, from cleaning out the litter box to administering medication. In addition, she always offered to take in my mail and looked after my home to make sure all was well while I was away. All of the time I lived next door to her in Florida, she offered tremendous, unending love, support, and compassion to me and each of my cats. If you are looking for a responsible, trustworthy person to care and love on your animals while you are away from home, Brenda is the one to call!!!
